The water-reducible coating composition of the present invention comprises a water phase, a vehicle emulsified or tree in the wated phase, and a pigment dispersed in a portion of the vehicle. Another object of this invention is to provide such a coating composition having improved pigment dispersion by the use of dispersants since, as previously mentioned, dispersants do not provide a good dispersion relative to the vehicle and do not themselves form a desirable constituent of the applied film.
